SDSU Safe Ride

SDSU Safe Ride is a service that allows SDSU students, faculty and staff to request a ride at no cost at more than 30 campus locations. Rides can be requested Monday through Friday, from 7 p.m. to midnight (not including holidays or the summer semesters). You can request a ride by opening the SDSU Safe app (available for Apple and Android devices) and selecting the "Safe Ride" icon on the home screen.

An ADA accessible van is available.

Each rider is required to present their SDSU RedID card before boarding the shuttle.

Code of Conduct

The Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for behavior of passengers to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all.

  • Treat drivers and fellow passengers with respect and courtesy.
  • Open containers of food or drinks are not allowed on campus shuttles. Food and beverage containers must remain sealed at all times to prevent spills and maintain shutttle cleanliness for riders.
  • Keep personal belongings secure. The university is not responsible for lost, misplaced or stolen items.
  • Seat belts are required at all times.
  • No animals are allowed on campus shuttles except for trained service animals.
  • Visible intoxication and inappropriate behavior may result in a ride being declined. Transportation Services may request a wellness check for passengers who are a safety risk to themselves or others.
  • Transportation Services reserves the right to refuse rides at the driver's discretion.

SDSU Safe Ride Frequently Asked Questions

No. Safe Ride is entirely free of charge. All riders must show a valid SDSU RedID before boarding the vehicle.

Students, faculty and staff who are unable to download the SDSU Safe app can request a Safe Ride shuttle through Transloc.

Yes, an ADA accessible shuttle is available. After selecting the pick-up and drop-off location, the passenger will be automatically directed to the Passenger Details menu. Select the option “wheelchair access required” if needed.

Although the shuttle operates on an on-demand basis, Safe Ride drivers only pick up and drop off passengers at designated stops listed. 

No, each rider will need to submit their own ride request and present their valid SDSU Red ID to board the shuttle. 

No. Non-SDSU visitors are not permitted to use the service. The SDSU Safe Ride program is only for SDSU students, faculty and staff with a valid SDSU RedID.

Wait times may vary depending on the location of the shuttle in relation to the requested pick-up location.  Riders can track the arrival of the shuttle through Transloc.

No, riders will not be able to communicate with shuttle drivers until they board the shuttle.

No, Safe Ride does not stop at Snapdragon Stadium. Instead, anyone can board the MTS Green Line trolley at the SDSU Transit Center.  The MTS Green Line trolley stops at Snapdragon Stadium, which is located three stops from the SDSU Transit Center.

Upon arrival, the driver will pull up to the designated pickup location in a marked shuttle. The driver will also have the rider’s information and will check the passenger’s SDSU RedID.

If the rider has completed the request, loss of phone battery or power will not cancel the ride. Once the request is completed, the driver is notified of a waiting rider, regardless of the rider’s phone activity.

Yes. Items left in the SDSU Safe Ride shuttle are turned in to the information desk at the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union. Some items, including wallets, IDs, keys and/or passports, will be collected by the San Diego State University Police Department.

Yes, passengers may bring personal belongings on Safe Ride. Smaller items, such as backpacks or tote bags, can be kept with the rider during the trip. Larger items, including skateboards, scooters, luggage or groceries, should be stored securely in the trunk to keep the seating area clear and safe for all riders. Bikes cannot be transported on the Safe Ride shuttle. Passengers are responsible for the care and handling of their personal belongings, including loading and unloading items from the vehicle.

No. Animals are not permitted on campus vehicles, with the exception of trained service animals.
