Parking Options for Faculty and Staff

SDSU offers several parking options for hourly, daily, and long-term parking needs.

Daily-choice parking can be a more affordable alternative to purchasing monthly or semester parking. The daily-choice parking rate will be $4.25 per day (including fees) in four parking areas, Parking Structure 3, Parking Structure 4, Parking Lots 17/17A/17B, and Parking Lot 15. This rate is available exclusively through the PayByPhone app/website

Note: you cannot use this rate to park outside of Parking Structure 3, Parking Structure 4, Parking Lot 15, or Parking Lots 17/17A/17B areas and it is not valid in any Faculty-Staff designated areas. Vehicles that pay in these zones but park outside of the areas are subject to citation. Time restrictions in EV charging areas still apply.

Faculty/Staff accounts will be automatically created in the Transportation Portal. Please do not create a guest account. Log in using your SDSU email credentials. Review our Parking Rules & Regulations prior to purchasing a permit and parking on campus. Visit the Guides webpage to learn how to purchase a permit or link your vehicle(s).

Emeritus Permit

The SDSU Senate Policy includes parking as a benefit for those receiving emeritus status. This only includes state staff and faculty. Only those that have been conferred by the Senate are entitled to emeritus permits. Please see the Senate Policy File for more information regarding retiree emeritus status and benefits to see if you qualify. If eligible, emeritus employees can obtain an emeritus permit through the online Transportation Portal.

New retiree 10+ employees are not eligible for the parking benefit unless you are conferred by the Chair of the Senate as described in the Senate Policy File

It is the responsibility of the employee to:

  • Request the pre-tax payroll deduction for payment for parking or transit
  • Commit to continue the payroll deduction process for a minimum of six (6) months, barring extenuating circumstances (i.e., medical or sabbatical leave, etc)
  • Request cancellation of their payroll deduction indefinitely (temporary cancellations will reviewed on a case by case scenario)

Types of Payroll Deducted Permit

  • 10-month (only available to faculty): Permit is valid only ten (10) months out of the year, from August 15 - June 15, but deductions are taken out monthly (12 months out of the year)
  • 12-month: Valid the whole calendar year and deductions are taken out monthly

Fees are based on the employee's bargaining unit.

To initiate a payroll deducted permit, please contact Transportation Services via email at [email protected].

Pausing Payroll Deduction

Payroll deductions are paused only in extenuating circumstances resulting in a minimum of a 2-month period in which the employee will not be at work, such as medical leave, parental leave, and sabbatical leave.

Canceling Payroll Deduction

You can cancel anytime after your 6-month commitment. If a payroll deduction is cancelled, we will not be able to reactivate your payroll deduction for 2 semester terms.

  • Cancel in Spring = Reactivate in Fall
  • Cancel in Summer = Reactivate in Spring
  • Cancel in Fall = Reactivate in Summer
